The past

Under the veil of night, the grand silhouette of the majestic mansion emerges like a monolith, its towering spires reaching towards the star-strewn heavens. Bathed in the soft glow of moonlight, the elegant facade of the mansion glistens with opulent details, intricate carvings, and sprawling ivy that weaves its way across the ornate architecture. Each window emits a warm, inviting glow, casting dancing shadows upon the manicured gardens below. A gentle breeze whispers through the towering trees that line the estate, carrying with it the faint scent of jasmine and nostalgia. As the night deepens, the mansion stands as a beacon of grace and splendor, a testament to bygone eras and timeless elegance.Despite its grandeur, the house exudes an air of desolation, echoing the loneliness felt by its sole occupant.
In a desolate house of faith, Ziphora, a mix of Pomeranian and Chihuahua, waits for her absent owners, surviving on meager rations. Stevenson, a stray German Spitz, occasionally finds scraps but is empathetic towards Ziphora's plight. Hearing her howls of hunger, he ventures into the empty house, offering her his own meager meal despite her initial reluctance. Their encounter sparks a connection, and Stevenson finds himself drawn to Ziphora, unable to shake her from his thoughts.
As Stevenson returns night after night, his feelings for Ziphora deepen, culminating in a heartfelt confession of love. Surprisingly, Ziphora reciprocates his feelings, and the two dogs pledge to spend their lives together. Their bond solidified, Ziphora shares her meager provisions with Stevenson, their shared meal sealing their commitment to one another. With a promise to return, Stevenson slips away into the night, leaving Ziphora eagerly awaiting his next clandestine visit through the broken wall.
Their days slip by in anticipation of their conversations, while their nights are filled with the comfort of their heartfelt exchanges. One night, Stevenson's dream transports him to a surreal place where various animals discuss the fate of someone named Roger and a girl named Avi, hinting at a significant connection between humans and animals. Another part of the dream leads Stevenson to a house where he encounters a dog who refers to him as "Dad," adding to the mysterious elements of the dream. Waking up in shock from this unusual dream, Stevenson finds himself sleeping longer than usual and seeks food from a nearby restaurant's leftovers, settling for a burger.
Returning to visit Ziphora, Stevenson navigates through a secret entrance to avoid waking the owners. Their conversation reveals their shared fears, with Ziphora explaining her pyrophobia and thanatophobia stemming from witnessing her mother's death and her father's demise in a fire. Stevenson also discloses his claustrophobia. Ziphora's past trauma and Stevenson's understanding demeanor deepen their bond as they share personal experiences and vulnerabilities. Stevenson's light-hearted teasing about Ziphora's previous alcohol consumption leads to a revelation about the owner's erratic behavior, driven by grief over her son's death and subsequent resentment toward her daughter. Ziphora offers Stevenson shelter despite the potential dangers, highlighting the trust and camaraderie they've developed. Their evolving relationship and shared experiences underscore the themes of empathy, understanding, and resilience in the face of adversity.
Stevenson and Ziphora establish a nightly routine to meet, ensuring their secret rendezvous remains undetected by the twin brothers who inhabit the house during the day. However, their routine is disrupted when Stevenson shares a dream involving a mysterious figure named Roger, prompting Ziphora to reveal her own encounter with a being who prophesied her future child. Their conversation is cut short by approaching noises, forcing Stevenson to leave abruptly.
The next day, Stevenson's routine is interrupted by the arrival of fresh pastries at a nearby bakery. Excited by the treat, he rushes to share the croissants with Ziphora, who eagerly devours them. As they enjoy their stolen moment together, Stevenson learns that they are expecting a child, filling him with both joy and concern about their future as a family. Despite their uncertainties, their bond grows stronger as they anticipate the arrival of their unexpected offspring.
As Ziphora's pregnancy progresses, her owners begin to notice changes in her behavior, suspecting that she might be expecting puppies. One evening, as Ziphora eagerly awaits Stevenson's arrival, her owners stumble upon their secret meetings, catching them in the act. Enraged by the discovery of Ziphora's forbidden relationship, they unleash their fury upon Stevenson, brutally attacking him in front of her, leaving Ziphora helpless and traumatized.
Despite witnessing Stevenson's tragic demise, Ziphora manages to survive, carrying their unborn puppies within her. Alone and grieving, she gives birth to a litter of puppies, unaware that one of them, Roger, is still alive. Overwhelmed by the trauma of losing Stevenson and believing all her puppies to be dead, Ziphora struggles to cope with her grief, her heart heavy with sorrow and loss.
As days pass, Ziphora's owners, unwilling to care for the unexpected litter, decide to abandon them, leaving them to fend for themselves. Unbeknownst to them, Roger survives the abandonment, left to face the harsh realities of the world on his own. Meanwhile, Ziphora, consumed by grief and despair, remains oblivious to Roger's existence, convinced that her puppies are lost to her forever, unaware of the one who bears the name of the prophesied figure from her past.
